Fashion: Sohad Acouri Couture

Sohad Acouri is a Lebanese-born designer based in the United Arab Emirates, who credits Galliano, Valentino and Lacroix with having inspired him to follow in his mother’s footsteps to become an atelier.

After studying at the Academie Michelangelo des Beaux-Arts in Beirut, Acouri set up his own label. The 1996 conflict in Lebanon led him to settle in the UAE, first in Abu Dhabi and then in Dubai. At his Jumeirah villa, the designer now creates and fits outfits for the royalty of the Gulf and for international events such as the Viennese Opera Ball in Austria. He has exhibited at the Paris Haute Couture week and is a partner of Swarovski Elements, most recently showcasing as part of the Jawaher project.

The house of Acouri creates 50 to 60 pieces every six months, much of which is bought out prior to being completed. As many as five or six materials are worked into each Acouri garment including silk, chiffon, dentelle, soft net. The designer creates neo-classical gowns focussed on the luxurious drapery of delicate fabrics. Above is a selection of Sohad Acouri’s work over the last decade.
