The hugely successful Whitechapel series returns to ITV1 with more thrilling mystery from the streets of London’s most notorious crime district as part of a three part mini series.
DI Chandler and his team are only just recovered from the encounter with the legend of Jack the Ripper, when the spectre of the legendary Kray Twins appears to have reached from beyond the grave to exact revenge on old informants and turn-coats.
Gruesome injuries are contrasted with ridiculous scenes at the police station as gangland tactics put pressure on Chandler’s men. Cars are replaced with donkeys, CPS lawyers are duplicated and the main suspects wander freely through the building with fake documentation.
It appears that even DI Chandler’s friends in high places are having a tough time. Will his relationship with the Commander (Alex Jennings) help or hinder his ability to catch the culprit?
Meanwhile, the anorak Edward Buchan (Steve Pemberton of League of Gentlemen fame) is welcomed onto the investigation by DI Chandler (Rupert Penry Jones), much to the chagrin of DS Ray Miles (Phil Davies). Buchan’s hunches prove to be useful, but still don’t stop the killings.
DI Chandler is left wondering whether he is hunting for a legend rather than a criminal.
Atmospheric and raw, the Whitechapel mini-series is chilling and addictive. A must-see this Autumn.
Whitechapel II will air on ITV1 at 9pm on Monday 11th, 18th & 25th October 2010 in the UK.
