Much has been made of the horns which will blare out in the stadia through the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but another sensation which will ripple through the crowds this year is the Waka Waka dance.
Featuring as part of the official 2010 “This is Africa” World Cup song, the Waka Waka dance is a simple gyration which will no doubt get the fans in the mood in time for the first match.
The dance is being promoted as a “social media” phenomenon to get Youtube users responding with shorts of themselves dancing the Waka Waka.
The effort is part of a campaign called 1GOAL which has the following aim: “Call on world leaders to provide education for 72 million children worldwide by 2015”. The website has a petition, which currently has over 8 million subscribers as well as support from big names such as Thierry Henry, Aaron Mokoena, Michael Owen, Mia Hamm, Michael Essien and Ji Sung Park.
