Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011: “Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth and Other Stories”

The draw of Edinburgh Festival Fringe is not just the quality of the entertainment on offer. The breadth of theatre on offer gives visitors to the city an opportunity to see truly original and refreshing styles and ideas from young performers.

If your tastes err towards fantasy and allegory, get down to the Royal College of Surgeons for a professional play with a rich pedigree – “Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth and Other Stories” from the Sussex University Drama Society:

“Enter a realm of magic, mime and marionettes in this visually enchanting collection of absurd and twisted tales, drawing together burlesque, circus, folk stories and physical theatre. ‘Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth and Other Stories’ explores the terrible, grotesque, surreal, sublime, confusing, passionate, ecstatic and downright stupid moments in our lives through its uniquely crafted and strangely sympathetic jumble of characters.

“Witness the return of the critically acclaimed SUDS Theatre Company with more “powerful storytelling” and more “engaging eccentricity” (List, 2009) in ‘Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth and Other Stories’. Enthralling characters and innovative storytelling unlike anything else at the Fringe.”
