Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011: “Arsenic and Old Lace”

Article 19, a theatre society from Birmingham University Students’ Guild, will be performing “Arsenic and Old Lace” as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011.

“It’s New York, 1948, and the Old Brewster House is about to explode in a mêlée of mischief, mirth and murder. Mortimer Brewster, an infamous bachelor and misogynist, returns to his childhood home to visit his dear old Aunts and his beloved, if not completely bonkers, brother Teddy, before honeymooning with his all-American girl next door.

“However, all is not as rosy as it seems and Mortimer soon finds that his two Aunts have a horrible secret… they have been poisoning lonely old men and burying them in the house.

“Mortimer becomes stuck in a world which seems to grow more and more ridiculous with every passing minute, where he alone has to control his murderous Aunts, his new bride, the New York Police Department and the return of his criminal brother Jonathan… who also has skeletons buried in his closet.”

“A madcap, screwball farce from the five-star company Article19.”
