Tom Hanks Plays Captain Phillips in Somali Pirate Film Out 18th October 2013

It is 2009, the US container ship Maersk Alabama is hijacked by Somalis off the coast of Africa. Captain Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks), must try to work with the pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), to diffuse the hostage situation and get everyone to safety.

This thriller ties a multitude of international forces together in a desperate, suspension-filled story of men driven far beyond where they want to be.

The film is directed by Paul Greengrass, from a screenplay by Billy Ray based upon the book, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, by Richard Phillips with Stephan Talty. The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, and Michael De Luca. Sony Pictures will release the film in UK cinemas on 18 October, 2013.
