One of Ireland’s favourite shows, the second season of Single Handed will air for the first time in the UK from 14th July on ITV1. The series deals with the innovative approach of the Garda who have to police rural West Ireland. Faced with minimal resources and even less manpower, local law enforcer, Jack Driscoll has to babysit suspects, commandeer the local taxi and rely on the goodwill of the local community.
The start of the second series is a two-part story “The Lost Boys”. Jack meets a long-lost cousin who is looking for his father. The reunion drags up family history that Jack’s mother did not wish to speak of. At the same time, Jack must investigate the death of an old man, interviewing boys from the local juvenile correctional facility. Both investigations touch upon the dark and buried secrets from Ireland’s historic practice of industrial schools.
More than 4 million people watched the first series of Single Handed and the second series has been commissioned by ITV and RTÉ Television. Ireland gets the episodes first, so there are spoilers available for those who wish to find them.
Single Handed – Season 2 begins on ITV1 at 9pm on 14th July 2011.
