More than a quarter of a century since he confessed to killing his daughter Heather, the names of two of Britain’s most notorious serial killers have resurfaced. Widely believed to be responsible for many more murders than the 12 women and girls they are known to have killed, a new two part documentary starting tonight on ITV will explore whether other missing young women from the Gloucestershire area were also victims of Fred and Rose West. Sir Trevor McDonald, who fronts the documentary, joins us to reveal why there’s still so many unanswered questions.

  1. I am aware or the suspected body location at Berkeley, Gloucestershire. The building concerned used to have a water output from the local stream into a mill pool. I am now almost 78 years of age. When I was about 12 years old I used to cycle about 6 miles, to fish in this pool. The water level at that time used to be approximately 4 to 5 feet below the road level and the pool was only partially filled. Since then (and I don’t know when) the stream was diverted and the pool filled in with earth. It would have been possible for bodies to have been buried in the non-submerged area of the pool, and more as the pool was filled with earth. I have no idea whether there are burials there, but, if there are, they are likely to be in the order of 8 feet below the current surface level.
