More than 4000 migrants have crossed the Channel to the UK so far this year with hundred arriving in the past few days which is double the number arriving this time last year. Due to the maritime law, the British coastguards are required to escort them to safety, however the government is now asking the navy to step in amid the sharp rise in the numbers who are willing to risk their lives to make the crossing. French politician Pierre-Henri Dumont says it is unfair to state that the French aren’t doing anything to help and have stopped 800 migrants at sea this year. Tony Smith, the former Director General of the UK Border Office beleives there needs to be a joint patrol where migrants are instantly returned to France. Rear Admiral Chris Parry would like to see the Royal Navy involved to help secure the boarder and reduce criminal activity. Syrian refugee and film maker Hassan Akkad almost drowned trying to get to Britain and thinks that Britain needs to tackle the practical motives and only a small percentage want to come to Britain. Hassan also asks why are Brits allowed to live in Spain but Syrians aren’t allowed to live in Britain?
