Good Morning Britain published this video item, entitled “Shake-up Of Sentencing Laws Could See Teenagers Sent To Prison For Life | Good Morning Britain” – below is their description.
The sentencing white paper, to be unveiled by the justice secretary, Robert Buckland on Wednesday, will lower the age at which whole life orders can be handed down for murder from 21 to 18, as well as several measures that will ultimately increase the number of people held in prison. However, leading criminal defence barrister Chris Daw is arguing that crackdowns, increased stop and search and harsher sentences achieve the opposite of their intention – they lead to more gang violence, crime and drug dealing. He argues for shutting down prisons and taking kids out of the justice system altogether.
