Sadiq Khan is asking government and those in positions of power to be honest with the public about the reality of the ongoing health crisis, issuing a warning about complacency to the threat of a second wave. He is also concerned about the economic crisis being felt in city centres, but acknowledges there is a limit to the numbers who can return to workplaces. Khan says, “Londoners are not stupid”, they see what is happening elsewhere in the world with Covid-19 cases rising across Europe. He says “berating people” to return to central London is “counterproductive” and says the government should focus on a fully functioning test, trace and isolate system that works and a clear and consistent message.
