Prince Harry has qualified as an Apache Aircraft Commander. Captain Wales, as he is known in the British Armed Forces, serves with the 3 Regiment Army Air Corps.

The tests he undertook to gain his qualification included a simulated attack on RAF Spadeadam and a six-hour flight from Wattisham up the eastern side of England to Newcastle, then across to Carlisle, and down the western side of England through Manchester and Liverpool to Birmingham and back to Wattisham in Suffolk.

Prince Harry’s Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Tom de la Rue said:

“This is a tremendous achievement for Captain Wales who passed with flying colours. I am delighted that his new status as a qualified Apache Aircraft Commander and Co-Pilot Gunner places him at the very top of his profession.”

Prince Harry will now undertake normal duties as an Apache Pilot based at Wattisham Airfield after having returned from an operational tour in Afghanistan in January 2013.
