As Barbados severs more ties with is colonial past and replaced the Queen with an elected president as Head of State, Prince Charles has showed his support for the move.

In a speech at the ceremony, the Prince of Wales called slavery an “appalling atrocity” and “the darkest days of our past… which forever stains our history”.

The Queen has also wished the new republic a happy and prosperous future.
