Controversial British comedian Russell Brand, 34, and US-born singer Katy Perry, 25, got engaged on New Year’s Eve according to Brand’s publicist.
Brand and Perry had managed to keep many details of their relationship private to date, though Perry did speak of their relationship in an interview with BBC’s Radio One in November 2009.
Russell Brand courted controversy when, during a BBC Radio Two recording, he, along with Jonathan Ross, telephoned Andrew Sachs (the actor who played Manual in television series Fawlty Towers) and made derogatory comments about the actor’s Grand daughter. Brand and co-host Ross were both suspended by the Corporation as a result of the stunt.
Brand, who told of overcoming addictions to sex and drugs in his autobiography, has also hosted MTV’s Video Music Award (VMA) ceremony twice, despite raising eyebrows with his risque humour.
Katy Perry gained the public’s attention in 2008 when the release of her debut single “I Kissed a Girl” stormed to the top of charts around the world, becoming one of the biggest selling tracks of the year.
The engagement was confirmed by Russell Brand’s publicist today, according to the BBC, after The Sun newspaper reported Brand had proposed on New Years Eve before the couple were blessed by a “Love Guru”.
The comedian is also widely reported to have confirmed the couple’s engagement via a text message to Gordon Smart of The Sun newspaper which read simply “Its true. Much Love”.
Not a perfect combination. Katy is beautiful and Russell is ugly.
; ) Peace. Sorry for the comment.
