Australia to Chime in Christmas with Carillon Recital in Canberra

The Australian Capital Territory will chime in Christmas with a recital at the National Carillon in Canberra.

A carillon is a collection of bells played by a series of levers and hammers attached to a keyboard. The National Carillon in ACT was a gift from the British government celebrating 50 years of federal government in Canberra. The bell tower sits on Aspen Island in the centre of the city and has 55 bells.

Susan Antcliff , Astrid Bowler, Kerryn Milligan and Joan Chia will perform at a free concert from 6pm until 8pm on Christmas Eve in the city.

NCA Exhibition Facilities Manager, Seona Doherty:

“This is the tenth year the concert has been held.  Each year we see a number of families that have made the annual event a tradition.

“Audiences this year will be treated to a mix of traditional Christmas songs, and contemporary Australian carols.”

The National Carillon is located on Aspen Island, off Wendouree Drive, Kings Park in Canberra, ACT, Australia. The concert will start at 6pm on Friday 24th December 2010.
