This Morning on UK’s ITV produced this segment about “Karens” and introduced three women with the firstname who, they said, were “taking a stand against memes”.
Note – the video (above) has since been made private. This item remains of interest, as it was picked up by several media outlets, therefore this article remains despite the video not being accessible.
Below is the description used by ITV’s This Morning for this segment.
Are you a Karen? A middle-aged, white woman with blonde-bobbed hair and when things don’t go your way, you loudly demand to speak with the manager?
What was once the second most popular baby name in 1974, in 2020 has taken on a totally different meaning and Karen is now one of the biggest insults thanks to a stream of online memes.
However, this has left thousands of real-life Karens up in arms.
Three Karens tell Eamon and Ruth how this has affected them, with one having started a petition against the name being used by tabloids, and another who is changing her name by deed poll.
