“Dawn Till Dusk” follows the busy working lives of the Law & Order: UK team as they juggle multiple cases and prioritise their workload. The episode is a more realistic treatment of the criminal justice system where several cases are managed by the same team at the same time. A shooting, stabbing and an allegation against a police officer conspire to make one day seem like a week.

Jake Thorne bends the rules to try and keep a case on track while Ronnie and Sam ignore being subtly warned off a case to pursue a shadowy government figure. Issues of procedure in court, the right to privacy and charge bargaining are all raised in one day, showing how difficult it is for the justice system to balance fairness with efficiency.

A departure from the usual style of Law & Order, this “Dawn Till Dusk” episode is hectic, reflecting the usual day of a police office and Crown Prosecutor. There is little resolution to the crimes themselves as would be the case in the real-life criminal justice system.

“Law & Order – Dawn Till Dusk” airs on ITV on Friday 10th February 2012 at 9pm for UK viewers only.
