One of the country’s most senior police officers has said he believes that schools have covered up sexual offences to protect their reputations as a task force took charge of the surge in abuse complaints. Soma Sara, a former independent school pupil set up the website “Everyone’s Invited” which has now received more than 5,000 reports of abuse. Soma first shared an Instagram post of her experience of “rape culture” in June 2020. Within a week she had 300 anonymous accounts of “misogyny, harassment, abuse and assault” – this number has now risen to more than 5000.
