Netflix has announced it will stream Diana: A New Musical, a show set for Broadway before it was stymied by the virus. Viewers will be treated to a wise-cracking Camilla Parker Bowles, a potty-mouthed Queen, razzle-dazzle ’em numbers such as Whatever Love Means Anyway, Here Comes James Hewitt and The Dress, an expletive-laden song about the little black number that Princess Diana wore post-divorce. There are mentions of her suicide attempt and eating disorders, her naive pursuit of Prince Charles and wounding at his affair. Is it a case of once public property, always public property or has our consumption of true crime and true tragedy coarsened us beyond respect for the dead and those who grieve them?
