Good Morning Britain published this video item, entitled “Is Calling Female Colleagues “Love” or “Honey” Demeaning? Pet Names At Work Sparks Debate | GMB” – below is their description.
Calling female colleagues “love” or “honey” is demeaning and not the same as calling men “mate”, a tribunal has ruled. An employment judge said calling someone ‘mate’ or ‘lad’ is not a pet name, it’s a nickname, but pet names such as chick, babes, honey, hun and sweetie are infantilizing ways of referring to women. It comes after a funeral home manager was fired for making a series of inappropriate remarks to a young woman at work, including labelling her “sweet” and “chick”.
