Transformers: The Chess Collection – Official First Look

IGN published this video item, entitled “Transformers: The Chess Collection – Official First Look” – below is their description.

Get a first look at the Transformers G1 Chess Set as Hero Collector joins with Hasbro to launch their first-ever Kickstarter campaign.

The chess set will feature 32 unique game pieces – 16 for the heroic Autobots and 16 for the villainous Decepticons – created specifically for the Kickstarter and modeled on the classic 1980s Generation One (G1) Transformers animated cartoon. Each model is digitally sculpted, then cast in metallic resin and painted by hand. The sculpts, which show the Transformers in their robot form, were developed with Hasbro and are based on the original animation designs and careful study of the animated series.

The Kickstarter launched on August 13, 2021 with a delivery date of Q4 2022. A variety of backer gifts are planned for fans who want to go the distance in bringing this game to life – including a Transformers pin badge, Transformers profile book, and more exclusive Gen-1 chess pieces.

  1. Which are the 16 Autobots in the chess set? Optimus, Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet, Prowl, Mirage, Brawn, Cliffjumper, Sideswipe, Elita One, Hot Rod, Ultra Magnus, Arcee, Springer? We hope to have more characters that can add to the replacement or an expanded board with more than 16 from each side. Also, it characters should not just stick to the square boards, eg. Bumblebee should not be fixed to a pawn square. He can also be fixed to a knight square. That allow more flexible role plays. Moreover $600 is too exoensive for the general collector to buy. Since Optimus Prime is more likely to be the most powerful, the rules can change for the King to play the role of the Queen. The king should be Optimus who moves many steps. And the Queen moves only one step. Or the Queen could be Primus or the matrix. My suggestion for batch 1 could be Optimus-King(who move many steps), Elita One or Teletran One-Queen(move 1 step), flexible Rook, Knight and Bishop roles for Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Ironhide, Ratchet, Prowl, Jazz and the pawns for Cliffjumper, Gears, Huffer, Windcharger, Sunstreaker, Hound….movement based on their level of power.
Batch 2 can be Optimus King, Teletran 1-Queen, Rook Knight Bishop for Brawn, Mirage, Sideswipe, Smokescreen, Tracks, Warpath and the pawns be Powerglide, Cosmos, Seaspay, Beachcomber, Spike Witwicky, Sparkplug Witwicky.
