A former Para who fought against ISIS in Syria warns of the “grave danger” of “wasting” counter-terrorism resources on pursuing prosecutions against soldiers like him after the case against him dramatically collapsed earlier this month. 33-year-old Daniel Burke, from Wythenshawe in Manchester, was one of three former fighters who were prosecuted for offences connected with the YPG, the main Western-backed force fighting against Islamic State. The case against the former Parachute Regiment soldier crumbled after he spent eight months in jail. He is the second case to be dropped by prosecutors before trial and a third case was largely thrown out by a judge.
