Marc Jacobs hosted the premiere of Somewhere in LA in the second week of December. The film, directed by Sofia Coppola, follows the decadent life of actor Johnny Marco who must face up to his hard living ways when his eleven year old daughter shows up. Stephen Dorff plays the self-indulgent thespian and Elle Fanning plays his young progeny.
Sofia Coppola said at the premiere:
Because my daughter was just born I was thinking about how being a parent changes your perspective and of course you end up thinking about your own childhood. The character was inspired by a friend’s daughter but memories were put in from my own childhood even though mine was very different from that in the movie.
I love those real iconic LA movies like Shampoo and American Gigolo and I thought “we haven’t seen a real LA movie for today’s era of LA” so I wanted to try and do that and really capture what it feels like and the way the light looks and driving around Chateau Marmont ‘s such a big part of LA to me so to be a portrait of this guy in LA at this moment.
Somewhere has had a rolling worldwide release and comes to cinemas in the UK on 10th December 2010, but hits the big screen in the USA on 22nd December 2010.
