‘Don’t Weigh Me’ cards help patients ask doctors not to step on a scale

GMA reported on a new phenomenon from the USA – the concept of “don’t weigh me” cards, which Americans are presenting to their doctor to ask them not to insist on weighing them unless it is deemed clinically necessary.

The intention behind the cards is to prevent unnecessary embarrassment in the doctor’s office. But is recording a record of someone’s weight always a useful metric for physicians?

Good Morning America published this video item, entitled “‘Don’t Weigh Me’ cards help patients ask doctors not to step on a scale” – below is their description.

Ginny Jones, the creator of the cards, realized that since asking not to be weighed, her weight was never required for her care.

What do you think? Is this a good innovation, or are we going too far to spare people’s feelings when it might be better for them – or their doctor – to learn of a change in bodyweight? Leave your thoughts in the comments section, below. Please note comments are moderated before publication.
