The second season of Northern English detective drama DCI Banks begins on 16th September 2011 on ITV. The first series of DCI Banks attracted an audience of over 6.5 million and the second series is set to be yet another big hitter.
Episode one forms the first section of a two-part story covering a fire on board a canal boat that turns up a series of intriguing clues from a reproduction Turner painting to the body of a seemingly unconnected resident. The conflicting leads divide the murder squad into dual investigations – one following the art fraud and the other focusing on an eminent doctor and his young family.
DS Annie Cabbott is mouthy and over enthusiastic, alienating the team despite having been given operational control over half of the investigation. However, as soon as DCI Banks censures her, he soon gets into hot water himself, levelling the moral playing field for them both.
Featuring a hunky art historian played by John Light, runaways, arson and large amounts of cash, this action packed double part drama has plenty to keep audiences on the edge of their seats – but not for too long. The DCI Banks series is based on Peter Robinson’s crime novels. The first two-part story is based on Playing with Fire, the second on Friend of the Devil and the third on Cold as the Grave.

You can only do so much in one two hour adaptation of one novel, so I hope this will give everyone a chance to build on the success they have already had and make DCI Banks a staple of prime time ITV series for years to come.”
DCI Banks Season 2 begins on ITV at 9pm on Friday 16th September 2011 for UK audiences only.
