DCI Banks season two is divided into a string of two-part stories. The second of these is “Friend of the Devil” – a story of revenge, cover up and lust. When the body of disfigured and immobile woman is discovered on a moor top, DS Annie Cabbott (Andrea Lowe) is unconvinced by the pathologist’s report on the knife wound. A parallel investigation into the rape and murder of a drunk woman in an alleyway gets tangled with the moor murder when a police officer on unofficial duty guarding the scene is killed in a similar manner.
DCI Banks (Stephen Tompkinson) is led astray as the boss dismisses Annie’s suspicions as career ambition. Once a not-so-innocent suspect is excluded as the murderer of Hayley Daniels, the team are back to the drawing board and must uncover the secret that has allowed a predator to evade detection.
Suppressed memories, secret trapdoors, duplicate identities and missing evidence combine to create a dark and compelling two-part story.
Episode four of DCI Banks airs on 7th October 2011 at 9pm on ITV for UK viewers only.
