Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams and Laura Robson have all made it through to the second round of Wimbledon after the second day of play at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Djokovic beat Florian Mayer of Germany 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. Serena Williams rose above the controversy of the last few days to comfortably beat Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-1, 6-3. Both are now well on their way to taking a slice of the £22,560,000 prize money on offer.
However, the early days of the tournament have already offered a major upset as Steve Darcis of Belgium beat Rafael Nadal 77-64, 710-68, 6-4. Rafa was magnanamous in defeat, refusing to make excuses of injury or lack of preparation, instead commending his opponent on the victory.
Brit, Laura Robson, made Tuesday a good day for the home crowd with a win over Maria Kirilenko of 6-3, 6-4. Hopes are also high for Andy Murray who is through to the second round after playing Benjamin Becker on Monday.
The forecast for the famously changeable weather in Wimbledon is good for Wednesday, promising unbroken outdoor tennis for upwards of 38,000 spectators expected to attend the grounds.
