Democrats and Republicans squabble as Senate impeachment trial begins | ABC NEWS

The Senate impeachment trial of US President Donald Trump has started with Democrats and Republicans already squabbling over the rules and what documents can and can’t be included in the proceedings.

Efforts led by the Democrats to obtain documents relating to Donald Trump’s dealings with Ukraine were blocked by the Republican-controlled Senate.

100 senators pledged “impartial justice” in deciding the fate of Donald Trump. Two-thirds of them would need to vote in favour of convictions to remove the President.

The President’s defence team has attacked the case as baseless.
