Clashes Continue in Kordofan State, Sudan

The United Nations World Food Programme has reported continuing clashes between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) in the Southern Sudanese state of Kordofan.

Kouider Zerrouk, a spokesperson for the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan (UNMIS), said:

“We reiterate our call on the SAF, SPLA and other armed groups involved in this conflict to immediately allow access to humanitarian agencies, stop indiscriminate military attacks against civilians and protect them in accordance with international law.”

53,000 people are thought to have been displaced by the violence. UN Workers in the capital of Kadugli have been unable to reach a warehouse stocked with 620 tons of food. The agency had previously been supplying around 400,000 people with food.
