ExxonMobil Iraq Limited, South Oil Company of Iraq, Shell West Qurna B.V. and Oil Exploration Company of Iraq, have announced that the West Qurna Oil Field in Iraq is now producing 285,000 barrels of oil per day.
Under a service contract, a target for a 10% increase in production was set at the field. To achieve this, the partners drilled new wells, improved existing wells, debottlenecked and optimized facilities. More than 1,600 Iraqis are engaged at the West Qurna I field operations.
ExxonMobil subsidiary Exxon Mobil Iraq Limited has a 60% interest in the field and is the lead contractor working with the South Oil Company of Iraq. The Oil Exploration Company of Iraq has a 25% interest and Shell West Qurna B.V., a Royal Dutch Shell affiliate, has a 15% interest.
