A bookend to students’ Opening Convocation held their first year, Baccalaureate at Stanford is a multifaith celebratory gathering for graduating seniors, graduate students, and professional students, as well as their families and friends.

It is a student-led commemoration acknowledging the spiritual contribution to the education of the whole person, organized under the auspices of the Office for Religious and Spiritual Life (ORSL). In addition to lively music from culturally diverse backgrounds, the program includes readings from different communities and perspectives which represent the wide range of religious traditions represented within the Stanford Community.

Dr. Simran Jeet Singh, educator, writer, activist, and scholar, was the Baccalaureate Speaker at the baccalaureate ceremony for 2022 graduates at Stanford University on Friday, June 10, 2022.

He is the Executive Director of the Inclusive America Project at the Aspen Institute and author of The Light We Give: How Sikh Wisdom Can Transform Your Life. Additionally, he is a Senior Adviser for Equity and Inclusion at YSC Consulting, Soros Equality Fellow with the Open Society Foundations, and Visiting Professor for Union Seminary. Simran is a regular contributor for TIME Magazine, CNN.com, and The Washington Post, and a monthly columnist for Religion News Service. He holds multiple degrees: a PhD, MPhil, and MA from Columbia University, an MTS from Harvard University, and a BA from Trinity University.
