Apr.15 — The People’s Bank of China has rolled out trial issuance of a digital yuan in cities across the country. A broader roll-out is expected for the Winter Olympics in Beijing next February. The Biden administration views China’s move as a potential threat. A senior Bank of Japan official downplayed the threat of China’s digital currency to the established order as it’s unlikely to be the dominant player in global financial settlements even if China leads the way. Kazushige Kamiyama, the key man for digital currency at the central bank, also discussed the future of digital yen in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg.
