Benidorm Christmas Special 27th December 2010 on ITV

If you like the Royle Family, you’ll love Benidorm. The Benidorm series follows the adventures of a working class holiday in Spain.

The Christmas special has all the added mayhem of a Christmas show and family get-together. Combining smut, slapstick and dry asides from Siobhan Finneran (Downton Abbey’s O’Brien), the programme encompasses a rich heritage of low-brow British humour which began with the Carry On films in 1958.

The special is classic patomime as Su Pollard fails to spot that she has reached a naturist resort and Sheila Reid glides around on a mobility scooter looking more like a Dalek than a beauty queen.

As Geoffrey Hutchings, the actor who played central character Mel, sadly passed away six weeks before the Christmas special started filming, the show was re-written bearing in mind the wishes of his widow Andi.

The Benidorm Christmas Special airs on 27th December 2010 at 9pm on ITV in the UK only. Series 4 of Benidorm will air in 2011.
