Aviation: Qantas Grounds A380 After Engine Problems

A Qantas A380 aircraft operating QF32 from Singapore to Sydney experienced an engine issue soon after take off and returned to Singapore.

As a result, Qantas has suspended scheduled A380 takeoffs until the reasons for the engine failure on the QF32 become clear. Passengers on affected flights will be accommodated on alternative flights. It is thought that this will include flights between Sydney, Perth and Los Angeles would be affected.

The QF32 flight had 440 passengers and 26 crew on board when the pilot sought priority clearance for its return to Singapore. The aircraft landed safely at 11.45am local time and there were no injuries to any customers or crew.

Hotels are currently being organised for the customers and crew affected. An aircraft will depart for Singapore to take passengers back to Sydney on Friday morning.

Qantas have started an investigation and have notified the ATSB.
