Australia’s leading showjumping competitor Edwina Alexander won one of the biggest Grand Prix in the world at Cannes, France, last weekend riding her long time partner Itot Du Chateau. Edwina pocketed 92,000 Euros for her win, along with a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch.
The relatively new concept of The Global Champions Tour has created a pinnacle of the sport for its top competitors. The worlds top ranked riders are invited to compete on the tour, with competitions in Doha, Valencia, Hamburg, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Monaco, Estoril, Chantilly, Valkenswaard, Rio de Janeiro, and Abu Dhabi.
Edwina and Itot du Chateau made it back to back wins after winning the same Grand Prix last year. She is now in the running to become the first Global Champions Tour millionaire, with a total of 992,399 Euro.
Second at Cannes was Sergio Alvarez Moya riding Action Breaker of Spain, and 3rd Ludger Beerbaum and Gotha FRH from Germany.
Edwina commented on her win, “This is such a lucky show for me and the audience love Itot. I had a positive feeling this morning which stayed with me all day. He jumped so well the first day and I saved him for tonight. Jan and I made a very good program for him this year as he is 15 years of age. He has been placed in every Grand prix this year with a 4th in Bordeaux World Cup and 3rd at Zurich World Cup, before having a break.”
The Global Champions Tour now moves to Monte Carlo on the 23rd to 26th June.
