Aker Philadelphia Shipyard to Build Two New Exxon Mobil Tankers

An affiliate of Exxon Mobil Corporation, SeaRiver Maritime, Inc., has signed a letter of intent with Aker Philadelphia Shipyard for two new tankers. The shipyard will deliver the 250m long, 115,000 deadweight ton crude oil tankers in partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries.

Construction will begin in 2012 and delivery will be expected in mid-2014. The tankers will be capable of transporting 730,000 barrels of Alaska North Slope crude oil each from Prince William Sound in Alaska to ports on the United States West Coast.

The tankers will feature double hulls, the latest navigation equipment and designs to generate lower emissions and greater fuel efficiency.

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard is part of the Aker group of companies based in Norway and focused on the marine and energy industries. SeaRiver Maritime, Inc. is based in Houston, Texas, and provides technical and commercial marine services to ExxonMobil affiliates throughout the world as well as operating a fleet of tankers.
