AFL Grand Final 2010: Collingwood Magpies and St Kilda Saints Play Out Incredible Draw!

St Kilda players after the 2010 AFL Grand final ends in a draw

The 2010 AFL Grand Final took place today in the MCG at Melbourne, where Collingwood “Magpies” and St Kilda “Saints” – both Victorian sides – played out an indcredible draw, the first in the sport’s main event since 1977.

Scoring went:

COLLINGWOOD 4.2  7.8  7.13  9.14 (68)
ST KILDA 3.2  4.2  7.5  10.8 (68)

The game finished with an incredible 29th minute behind from the Saints’ Lenny Hayes which bounced passed two Magpies players from 44 yars on its way to crossing the line and securing an unlikely draw for the unfancied side.

The Magpies had started the match as bookmakers 1/2 favourites, while a draw – an unlikely result – was an incredible 40/1 before play began.

Hayes last minute effort means that the sides will meet again next week for a rematch to decide the 2010 AFL Champs, though, immediately after today’s match, it was announced that, should a draw occur next time out, there will be extra time added on to decide a winner.

All those at the ground were abuzz, though, having witnessed one of the most memorable Grand Finals in living memory.
