Yiqing Yin Haute Couture Spring Summer 2014: “The Moth”

The moon rose slowly over the photographers at the end of the catwalk and the sound of cicadas overlaid the chatter of excited fashion followers.

Yiqing Yin’s Spring Summer collection for 2014 was entitled “the moth” and everyone was excitedly speculating on the form of the upcoming catwalk.

The result was a mixture of fur detail, translucent layers and grey shades. But as every nature lover knows, the moon attracts the moth, and true to form a full size moth piece appeared to the applause of the onlookers.

Complete with wings, the dress was the crowning glory for the French designer, who immigrated to France from China at the age of four.

Sectioning in the designs carried the insect theme through the collection, along with apposite face masks. A moth-like mottled pattern was also threaded in.

A powerful collection worthy of its billing.
