USA Weather: Blizzard Warnings for New York City

Residents in New York City, New York, USA, awake this morning, 26th December 2010, from their holiday sleep to extreme warnings, as the National Service for the US has issued a warning for the city which lasts from 6am 26 december to 6pm Monday 27 December 2010.

Snow accumulations of as much as 16 inches are forecast, including in neighbouring areas of New Jersey, Long Island and South-East Connecticut.

With gusty winds coupled with heavy snowfall, driving conditions are forecast to be extremely hazardous in the New York City region, with visibility forecast to be as low as zero at some points during the 36 hour period to 6pm 27 December.

Flights in and out of the city’s airports are also expected to be disrupted.

Residents are advised to travel only if absolutely necessary.
