UEFA Europa League 2013/14: Group Stage Results, Thursday 19 September

The opening round of Group Stage fixtures took place in the UEFA Europa League 2013/14 on the evening of Thursday 19 September 2013, as 48 teams across Europe took part in 24 matches.

On an evening wich saw 55 goals scored, the highest scoring match was in Slovenia, where NK Maribor entertained Russian club, FC Rubin Kazan, with the visitors scoring the majority of the seven goals, with a 5-2 away win.

Swansea City had an evening that their manager Michael Laudrup described as the “best in his career” as they travelled to Valencia and picked up a valuable 3-0 victory, thanks in part to an early red card for the home side. Their Premier League counterparts, Tottenham Hotspur, also enjoyed a 3-0 victory, at home to Tromsø.

Dinamo Zagreb did not fare well at home to Ukrainian side Chornomorets Odesa, however, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat. PSV Eindhoven also suffered a home defeat, as visiting Bulgarians Ludogorets Razgrad went away with all three points following a solid, if unexpected, 2-0 victory.

There was plenty of entertainment on offer across the fixture list, with only four matches finishing goalless.
