Roger Federer is set to face Janko Tipsarevic in the third round of the Roland Garros French Open. Federer takes a substantial 771 career wins to the base line against Tipsarevic’s 152. The pair have faced each other three times before with the current score at 3-0 to Federer.
The twenty-seven year old Serbian has only reached the final rounds of a grand slam once, in the doubles at the Roland Garros in 2008. His confidence on the clay may aide him against Federer, who is fonder of the hard courts and lawn. Tipsarevic also took Federer to five sets in the Australian Open in 2008, though he recently lost to the World Number 2 in Basel.
Tipsarevic has beaten Andy Murray three times and has reached three recent ATP finals, giving a much needed springboard for the match at Roland Garros this week. He reached the third round by beating Spain’s Pere Riba in straight sets on Wednesday, recording a one-sided 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 victory in just 81 minutes.
