“The Real Chainsaw Massacre” on National Geographic Wild

“The Real Chainsaw Massacre” follows the escapades of Julien and Faith, members of the UK-based Environmental Investigation Agency, as they go undercover in South America and the Far East posing as traders to catch illegal logging at work. Learn about the ties between armies, politicians and the illicit destruction of the world’s protected forests in a trade that feeds an ever-hunger timber market in the USA and Europe.

The team at the small NGO are up against leaders and soldiers who use the export restrictions on rare timber to create a monopoly to feed personal empires. Whilst the investigators risk life and limb in the timber yards and on the logging trails in Vietnam and Laos, the final battle is ultimately one of political pressure back in London.

“The Real Chainsaw Massacre” airs on National Geographic Wild on Thursday 22nd December 2011 at 8pm.
