Persistent rain has prevented any play in the opening day of the third Ashes 2009 Test Match between England and Australia at Edgbaston.

There is to be an inspection at 2pm, at which point the covers may be removed providing there is a break in the weather, which is forecast to remain wet in spells for the rest of the day.

All indications point towards a draw in this third test – and that result is now odds-on with many bookmakers.

England will be happier with that result, should it occur, as they currently lead the npower Ashes 2009 series 1-0.

No harm, my emialing can be published. The Ashes has always been the best contest between bat and ball and the rains in Birmingham – a thousand pities indeed playing spoilsport. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the 2.30pm inspection.
