Swansea 1-1 Chelsea, Barclays Premier League 2011/12 Match Report

Swansea 1-1 Chelsea
Sinclair 39 Taylor (O.G.) 90+3

Chelsea let two of the three teams above them in the Barclays Premier League 2011/12 table pull a little further ahead of them on the evening of Tuesday 31st January 2012, as they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Swansea City.

But it could have been much worse for the Blues, had Neil Taylor not flicked a Bosingwa effort past his own goalkeeper in the third minute of stoppage time to give Chelsea a last-gasp point from the match.

Swansea had been leading the match since former Chelsea man, Scott Sinclair had put the hosts 1-0 on 39 minutes in front of a delighted home crowd.

Swansea had dominated the early play – upsetting their illustrious visitors with some fine, flowing football, before Chelsea began creating opportunities. After a spell of pressure from the Blues, it was a former player, Sinclair, who latched onto a weak clearance before powering home a shot into Petr Cech’s top corner to give the hosts the half time lead.

Despite plenty of Chelsea possession and pressure, Swansea were holding on with relative ease, thanks, largely, to Chelsea’s profligacy in front of goal, so the home fans must have thought they were home and hosed when Chelsea left-back, Ashley Cole, was sent off for a second bookable offence following a foul on Dyer.

But it was not to be for Swansea, as Chelsea grabbed a late equaliser from the last chance saloon when Bosingwa ran into the box before firing a shot that beat Vorm via Neil Taylor deflection. The Chelsea right-back will not be awarded the goal – which would be his first in three years – but he’s certainly take the credit for a point saved.

Chelsea remain fourth, now 7 points behind Spurs, who won at home against Wigan. Swansea are 13th at the foot of a trio of teams on 27 points.
