Spanish Football Squad Go Sailing in Alicante Ahead of Volvo Ocean Race

As T-Pain might say, they’re on a boat. The Spanish football squad took time out to go sailing ahead of their Euro 2012 qualifying match against Scotland on Tuesday. Fernando Torres, Carlo Puyol, Xavi, David Villa, Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso and Pepe Reina cramped into the Camper moored at Volvo Ocean Race village in Alicante.

Fernando Torres allegedly told the boat’s crew he would love to try sailing, but that one leg of the ocean race would be enough given the confined space below deck.

The Camper with Emirates Team New Zealand will be led by skipper, Chris Nicholson. He will lead his crew aboard the Volvo Open 70 all the way to South Africa as part of the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race which begins on 29th October. The route takes in Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, Sanya, Auckland, Itajai, Miami, Lisbon and Lorient before finishing in Galway in July 2012.
