Rugby Union: RBS 6 Nations 2012 Fixture Schedule
By Sport Desk; published on January 18, 2012 at 12:31 pm
The RBS 6 Nations 2012 Rugby Union tournament kicks off in a couple of weeks time, with the first round of fixtures taking place on the weekend of 4-5 February 2012 – including the huge Calcutta Cup fixture between Scotland and England, which, this year, will be played at Murrayfield.
Fixtures in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy are selling out fast in anticipation of the tournament, which pits the best of the Northern Hemisphere against each other in five gruelling game weekends.
Last year, England emerged victorious, in one of the closest Six Nations tournaments for many a year – the competition ended with England on 8 points, while France, Ireland and Wales followed all locked on 6 points, separated only by points difference, after some fascinating fixtures across Europe. Scotland and Italy were next, though both sides produced one win to pick up two points apiece in a competitive tournament.
This year will see a slew of international retirements, post Rugby World Cup 2011, so it will be interesting to see some fresh faces take to the field on the opening weekend.
There are to be no Friday evening matches in the 2012 tournament, a change from the previous three years, which had seen one match at Wales’ Millennium Stadium take place on a Friday night.
Below The Global Herald have provided a free fixture list, in order for you to keep track of the vital matches, whether you follow France, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Italy or England – or are just a rugby fan who wants to know when the big matches are.
