Npower Championship 2011/12: Nottingham Forest 0-0 Barnsley

By ; published on August 7, 2011 at 6:46 pm

have not scored a goal on opening day for five seasons, so it was perhaps the draw of new manager and former England boss which drew 22,951 fans to the to witness their Npower Championship 2011/12 opener against on Saturday 6th August 2011.

History told in this match, as Forest, despite being perhaps the better side, yet again failed to score on opening day en route to collecting a point following an uninspiring 0-0 draw.

But it was the Nottingham side who came closest to victory when ever-impressive winger Paul Anderson forced Barnsley ‘keeper Steele into making a smart save before McGugan saw his attempt to slide home the rebound bobble agonisingly wide with minutes remaining.

Neither side did enough to deserve a win today, though Forest perhaps showed enough to indicate that their best is yet to come this season: if they can discover goalscoring form, they look, once again, a solid promotion candidate.
