Npower Championship 2011/12: Derby 2-1 Birmingham City

Derby Country were yet another side to come from behind on the opening weekend of Npower Championship 2011/12, as they came back from a goal behind to record an opening day win against Birmingham City with a 2-1 victory at Pride Park.

Former Newcastle manager, Chris Hughton looked to be on course for a debut victory when Curtis Davis headed home after 19 minutes, but Jason Shakell soon had the home side on level terms when he headed home from a free kick after 26 minutes.

Steve Davies then gave the Rams the lead on 42 minutes when he powered a shot home, to give the home side a 2-1 lead at half time.

The second half produced no further goals meaning Derby collected three points on opening day, while Birmingham, who are currently going through a difficult time at board level, returned to the west midlands with nothing to show for a bright performance which, on another day, might have produced at least a point.
