Nine Year Old Boy Becomes Youngest Ever US Chess Master

Samuel Sevian, a nine year old boy from Santa Clara, California, USA, has become the countries youngest ever Chess Master after attaining a US Chess Federation rating of 2,201 following a match in San Francisco.

The rating means the boy has become the youngest ever Chess Master in the United States, beating the previous record holder by just eleven days.

Samuel will turn 10 years old on Boxing Day, 26th December 2010, having two records to his name: at age eight, he becamse the youngest person to become an “expert” in chess.

Samuel practices chess for up to two hours per day, by playing against his father, Armen Sevian, and playing online with his chess coach, Andranik Matikozyan.
