New Film Pays Homage to “That Scene With Mr Darcy”

A new film devoted entirely to the costume dramas of Jane Austen will be released in Europe this Autumn. Austenland follows the travails of Jane Hayes (Keri Russell), a woman obsessed with the books of Jane Austen, but most of all with that scene featuring Colin Firth as Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice.

Jane decides to spend her entire life savings on a trip to Austenland, an English holiday resort catering to Austen-crazed women. Meeting Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie) off the plane, Keri Russell’s character is all set for a rip-roaring and amusing take on costume dramas and the great expectations of women looking for love.

Based on the novel by Shannon Hale (who also co-wrote the script), the film was written and directed by Jerusha Hess (writer, Napoleon Dynamite) and produced by Stephenie Meyer’s Fickle Fish Films.

Austenland is released in Ireland & the UK on 27th September 2013.
